Manhattan School of Music’s Symphony Orchestra performing under the direction of Leonard Slatkin
This January I traveled to Detroit to spend three days photographing the Sphinx Organization’s annual SphinxConnect convening of arts professionals from around the country as well as their flagship Sphinx Competition with a $50,000 grand prize in the senior division.

I love photographing the mainstage performances of the Manhattan School of Music Opera Theatre each year. While the 3+ hours of nonstop action requires a tremendous amount of focus and even more post production, the personal satisfaction in recording the months long efforts of many is very rewarding.
The Yuhan Su duo performed at Manhattan West as part of their Jazz Hour series. The constantly changing light made for lots of interesting variation and lots of depth.
I had the pleasure of returning to Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall to photograph the Oratorio Society of New York conducted by Kent Tritle who is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the Cathedral of St John the Divine and organist of the New York Philharmonic.

As a NYC performing arts photographer, I enjoy the challenge of unlocking the spirit of a performance from a fixed position hundreds of feet away.
Earlier this year I was asked to travel to Washington D.C. to photograph the recipients of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence at the Kennedy Center. Congrats to cellist Thomas Mesa, soprano Audi Marie Moore and composer Joel Thompson. I look forward to photographing the 2024 recipients in a few short months.
